T-shirt ideas
Here’s a mockup of last year’s t-shirt. This is just the front. I felt like the 2-sided design was kinda overkill. I’m thinking with a softer shirt, simpler design, and colors that are slightly easier on the eye, I might actually WEAR this one…
Here’s a quick sketch of the updated design. It’s single sided, which saves us money, so we can get a higher quality tee. Eggplant ink on Heather Gray? Or we could do Navy ink?
Since the teepee is gone, there’s no need to reference summer camp. Any suggestions for a new tagline? Memorable quotes from our summer session? C’mon writers, add your suggestions in the comments.

I say go with the gray since we did poypul last year. Gray w/ purple writing gets my vote.
Will think on new taglines…

I say we have a quotation. Below are some suggestions.
Beneath the rule of men entirely great,
The pen is mightier than the sword. (Edward Bulwer-Lytton )
Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it. (P. J. O’Rourke)

since it’s the school of letters, the shirt should have a bunch of letters swimming around. . . .

Cool idea. I also thought about drawing a school building with letterforms. But I don’t know if I can pull it off…

We could Rafael’s painting “School of Athens” and put random letters over all the faces.

Don sent me the following suggestions via email…
still working on a tag line, maybe these can spark other ideas:
words change worlds
words create worlds
creating new worlds with words
writing makes new
words: the power to transform
words change lives

Make each Sewanee School of Letters letter into a fish shape by gving it eyes and a fin or tail. Arrange them in a shape- maybe a fish shape- or anything. Keep it on the small side.

I vote for a rudimentary drawing of The Mountain with SOL as a citadel on the top.
Possible Quotations:
“In the mountains, there you feel free.” –T.S. Eliot, The Waste Land
“Solamen miseris socios habuisse doloris.” –Marlowe(as Mephistopheles), Doctor Faustus
Translation: Misery loves company
“We underestimate the power of our imaginations.” –Tim O’Brien
“Writing is easy. All you do is stare at a blank sheet of paper until drops of blood form on your forehead.” –Gene Fowler
