Lindsey’s Morning Routine
Lindsey Harding reports that a story she wrote and edited for workshop two summers ago was just accepted for publication to the online literary magazine Wanderings. The story is called “Morning Routine” and you can read it here. Congratulations Lindsey!
The latest from Eric Sundquist
Eric Sundquist’s book “King’s Dream: The Legacy of Martin Luther King’s ‘I Have a Dream’ Speech” appeared in January. Students from last summer will recall that Professor Sundquist read part of the manuscript of the book when he visited Sewanee. The School and its students are thanked in the “Acknowledgments” of the book.
Kirsten in The Southeast Review
I heard there’s another published author in our ranks… Some of you might remember Kirsten Skrinde’s short story “Clown Alley” from last summer’s workshop. The story was recently accepted by The Southeast Review, a national literary journal out of Florida State. Congratulations Kirsten! I think you’re officially a southerner now.
Jill Carpenter on Global Warming
Congratulations to Jill Carpenter! One of her essays was selected by the Union of Concerned Scientists to appear in the forthcoming Penguin anthology, Thoreau’s Legacy: American Stories about Global Warming. Can’t wait to read the published piece, Jill. How inspiring!
Hank in Gettysburg
Congratulations to Hank Haines! His short story “Bodies at Rest” appears in the latest issue of The Gettysburg Review. (At times like these, I miss being within walking distance from the periodicals section of the DuPont Library.) Check out his story and raise at glass in Hank’s honor!
Sullivan on the Blues
Jason Kelley sent me a link to (non-fiction professor) John Jeremiah Sullivan’s latest book review in the November 08 Harper’s (subscription required). While searching for a free version of the piece, I found more on Sullivan’s interest in the blues (sort of an interview about a review of the texts which are themselves grappling with the music). All of which makes the blues seem even more intriguing… I mean, you could never get this much mileage out of, say, the new Guns n Roses. Though I would welcome the attempt.
